August 1991 weltweit zur allgemeinen Benutzung freigegeben wurde. Zur Nutzung des WWW ist ein Webbrowser notwendig, welcher die Daten vom Webserver holt und beispielsweise am Bildschirm pr\u00e4sentiert. Der Benutzer kann den Hyperlinks folgen und gelangt so auf andere Websites. Das WWW wurde im Jahr 1989 als Projekt am CERN (Conseil Europ\u00e9en pour la Recherche Nucl\u00e9aire) in Genf von Tim Bernes-Lee entwickelt.
